Presentation by Scottish and Southern Energy’s In-house Legal Team tbc 15th/16th October.

Hazel Scott, Lead Manager and Senior Commercial Solicitor and Stuart Waddell, Senior Commercial Solicitor will compare and discuss the differences between in-house practice and private firms. They will discuss their Training Contract and what they look for in applications and interviews. They will also discuss their use of Scots and English Law, their day-to-day life, the Energy and Renewables sector and what it is like as the Legal team of a FTSE 100 company.

They will bring their Counsel too – Ailsa Wilson QC and Marcus McKay, both from Ampersand Stable. Hazel and Stuart will discuss how they instruct Counsel before Ailsa and Marcus chat about their roles as advocates, daily life and the differences between solicitors and barristers.

This event is ideal for anyone submitting application forms for vacation schemes or Training Contracts, anyone wishing to find out more about the differences of in-house vs. private practice or solicitor vs. barrister, the Energy sector, and working for a huge national company. Even if you are not considering Law, this presentation will be an invaluable insight into the legal challenges faced by an energy company and how a business utilises its Legal department. They welcome any questions – none are silly – as they wish to give as much advice and insight as they can, understanding we are a non-Law university. Please email Charlotte at ctb@st-andrews.ac.uk if you have any questions.
