The University of St Andrews Law Society is made up of students from all over the world and from all tracks of life, united by a common interest in law. We host a variety of events throughout the academic year for those who seek to pursue careers in the legal profession or simply learn more about law. Each semester, we invite solicitors, barristers and admissions tutors; hold networking socials; organise mooting competitions and trips; and provide support for undergraduates completing Law School applications and exams. 

As the University of St Andrews lacks a Law faculty, we provide an essential service to students and offer access to firms, contacts, information and the larger legal community. We are there to fill the void for aspiring lawyers, offering them the support needed to pursue careers in law.

President’s Address

Welcome to the University of St Andrews Law Society website.

Whether student, sponsor, firm or friend, we are thrilled that you are interested in us and the work that we do.

Firstly, we would like to extend our greatest thanks to our sponsors without whom we would be unable to operate. This summer, our sponsorship team has worked to secure many partnerships and we are delighted to announce them on our Partners page. We are very grateful for their support and look forward to a year of fruitful collaboration and partnership.

Last year marked a year of growth and prosperity for our society. We hosted several events ranging from alumni insights, firm presentations, networking events and US Law webinars. As for our mooting subcommittee, we saw it thrive, with a great participation in our internal moots and strong student representation at external moots in Dundee and beyond. A particularly new and exciting development is the commercial awareness society (CASOC) which has become an official subcommittee of the Law Society. This is an incredible testament to our society, which is still growing and expanding after over 20 years of service and I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to the committee of 2025-26 who made this all possible.

As for 2026-27, allow me to share with you our plans. This year will see our society continuing on its upward trajectory. Mooting will continue with its Monday sessions for both the beginners and the experienced, an internal moot competition will take place both in Semester one and two and our strong performance at external moots will endure. CASOC’s Friday sessions and midweek minutes will help you stay informed and help nurture your commercial awareness and there will be many informative events, networking opportunities, alumni insights and more. There will be much more to come but the committee is looking forward with a great deal of optimism to another stellar year for the Law Society.
